About the Project

For 3 weeks in May 2015, the outdoor photographic exhibition ‘Head in the Clouds – Glimpse of an Artist’ brought a breath of fresh air along the main street of Katoomba.

Featuring 20 photographic portraits of Blue Mountains creative artists captured by five photographers,' Head in the Clouds' offered visitors a glimpse into each artists' inner world.

Along the length of Katoomba Street a series of 20 banners were suspended from lights posts to bring creative visuals to the streetscape over the 3 week-long exhibition.

Taking art to the everyday person, the art exhibition in the street will gave Katoomba a vibrant, colourful feel for the duration of the exhibition.

Incorporating a ‘pop-up’ gallery in the foyer of the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, the series of portraits were exhibited as prints for the public to view in a more intimate way.

The exhibition director and curator, Ann Niddrie had a vision for showcasing the region's depth of creative talent; "As a newcomer to the mountains, I felt this was a unique way to contribute to our community, and to bring life and colour to Katoomba."

The exhibition was accepted as an associated exhibition of Head On Photo Festival - Australia's leading photographic festival and was supported by the Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust Grants Program (2014 round).
